Tangelina

Armchair

2011

In this seat, another new experience based on mergers was applied. Unlike the other pieces in this series, which are hybrids of two other pieces of furniture, this piece of furniture is a fusion of the Bowl Armchair (Designed by the Italian-Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi in 1951) with the structure of a tangerine. The result is a piece full of expressiveness and subtle humor, named with a name that expresses the combination of these two unusual elements: Lina + Tangerina = Tangelina.

This Armchair is part of the Viralata series, which is made up of several pieces of furniture, objects and architectural elements that are the result of an uninterrupted process of “crossings” between furniture and objects that generate third creations.
In line with the concept of “cultural anthropophagy”, launched by Oswald de Andrade in 1928 – the idea of devouring colonizing culture and transforming it into Brazilian and revolutionary culture., the Tangelina armchair presents strong but subtle references to roots and culture Brazilian: Miscegenation, syncretism and “viralism”.
