Moleco
Armchair
2009
The Moleco armchair is part of the ´Viralata´ series, which is made up of several pieces that are the result of direct “intersections” between different furniture and objects.
The concept seeks to be in tune with the concept of “cultural anthropophagy”, launched by Oswald de Andrade in 1928 – the idea of devouring colonizing culture and transforming it into Brazilian and revolutionary culture.
In the case of the Poltrona Moleco, the fusion was made between the Poltrona Mole designed by Sérgio Rodrigues in 1957 and the Coconut Chair, designed by George Nelson from 1955.
The name of the armchair also plays with the idea of fusion: Mole+ Coconut = Moleco.
With this project we seek to express strong but subtle references to Brazilian roots and culture: Miscegenation, syncretism and “viralism”.
