Armchair
2014
This armchair is a fusion of the “Danish” Armchair from 1959 by Jorge Zalszupin with the famous “Red and Blue” Armchair by the Dutchman Gerrit Rietveld from 1917. We sought to merge the concept of independent and straight pieces present in Rietveld’s neoplastic style armchair with the organicity of the wooden elements of the Zalzupin armchair.
This Armchair is part of the Viralata series, which is made up of pieces that are the result of “intersections” between furniture and objects. In line with the concept of “cultural anthropophagy”, launched by Oswald de Andrade in 1928 through his Antropóphago Manifesto – the idea of devouring colonizing culture and transforming it into Brazilian and revolutionary culture.
Here we present strong references to Brazilian roots and culture: Miscegenation, syncretism and “viralism”.
The exploration of this concept has been one of the keynotes of Lattoog’s speech when designing.
A work that was defined by journalist Suzete Aché as “Antropofagia Carioca”.
